Wheels Stuck to Hubs

Overview

Corrosion can develop between the wheels and hubs, freezing the wheels into place, and making them difficult to remove from the car.

Removal

An easy way to break through this corrosion is to loosen the lug nuts while the car is on the ground, drive a short distance at a slow speed(fifty yards should be sufficient), then jack up the car and remove the wheels.

You can remove the wheel caps by gently prying them off. Soak the hubs behind the wheel caps with penetrating oil repeatedly days prior to wheel removal. This should aid in removing the wheels.

Prevention

After removing the wheel, use a wire brush to scrape corrosion off of wheel and hub, then apply a thin layer of grease to the hub and wheel.
