Spring Rate Calculation

If you want to have your own springs wound, here is some information for you...

  • The formula is:
 k= (Gd^4)/(8(D^3)N)
  • Where:
d = wire diameter
D = spring diameter
N = number of active coils
G = Shear modulus of material, For steel; G = 79.3 GPa

Take your tape measure and check the diameter of the coils and you've got everything you need.
